THE TORAH OF DIVORCE
with Reb Ezra Weinberg — Thursdays 1-2:15 pm ET / 10-11:15 am PT, July 24, 31, and August 7
Surprisingly enough, divorce is actually one of the 613 mitzvot in the Torah. If you were ever curious about the voice Jewish tradition gives to this ancient and sacred mitzvah and lifecycle moment, this class is for you. In addition to mining some of the ancient sources, there will be space to explore the central spiritual gestures of divorce and also imagine / create what an emotionally and spiritually intelligent divorce ritual might look like today. People who have been divorced and who have never been divorced are all welcome to attend. Our three sessions will be as follows:
The Prohibition of Isolation: Is divorce a private issue or a public issue in the Jewish community?
Hidden in plain sight: Where does divorce live within the Jewish Tradition?
Chazak Chazak: Rituals for ending big chapters of our lives
The class will be taught via Zoom and can also be accessed via phone. All sessions will be recorded; you can take the class even if the time block does not work for you. For financial assistance or scholarship opportunities, please contact liviah@beitkohenet.org.
Cost: $100 + $25 non-refundable registration fee
